star light star bright
so I almost drove the truck into a lake
and I’m camping in the Tonto National Forest illegally, but besides that everything is really great.
right now I’m lying on the open gate of the truck looking up at the most ridiculous sky of stars and sucking in the dry desert air. how did I live until 32 years old and not understand just how crackling good desert air is?
I’m so happy to be out again, my little heart humming, my oversized farmers jacket wrapped around me and my Hanes socks tucked into my drop crotch sweatpants. I have the feeling I’m in the midst of wonder overload scenery, but since the last three hours of driving was in pitch black, I’ll have to wait until the morning to see what’s around me. and seeing that I’m camped illegally I think I’m going to make it a very early morning so I don’t get accosted by some ranger (that would be fine if said ranger were hot, but the rangers on the whole, although very nice and helpful, usually aren’t hot).
oh FYI, Arizona does some pretty spectacular, hazy, muted pastel wonderland sunsets. almost makes up for the spectacularly juvenile immigration laws here. almost.
